Cross-Border Meger & Acquisitions

May 14, 2013

This project will include several aspects:

1. Research: collect information about cross-border deals and internationalization, both descriptive and quantitative, analyze and disseminate the findings.

2. Network: provide a platform designed to facilitate the exchange of experiences, research and ideas between entities that are involved in the cross-border mergers, such as (i) firms, (ii) expert service providers such as accountants, lawyers, investment banks and compensation advisors and (iii) regulators and government officials

There is imminent need for Chinese firms to understand the complications and risks associated with cross-border merger, to avoid common mistakes and to implement best practice. Even though the government is also encouraging the outbound investment, there are existing regulations that are lagging behind and yet to be improved to cater to the increasing demand for cross-border mergers and other types of foreign direct investment. Furthermore, there are large potential risks that involved with both corporations and government. This project is aiming at these demands and could provide large impact on the future development of corporate China. In keeping with SAIF and CAFR’s fundamental mission to support Shanghai’s goal of becoming an international financial center by 2020, the project will give special attention to the international development of Chinese financial firms.
